How to lose a Short Sale Why do banks even consider taking a short sale? They will be loosing thousands of dollars and they already have the right to foreclose. There are many reasons banks have for wanting a short sale to go through, even though they will be loosing money on the sale. If the owner does not do a short sale, they will more than likely be going into foreclosure very quickly. A foreclosure for a bank is a costly and frequently takes months to get done. In a normal market that might not be that bad, but I our current condition with foreclosures causing the prices of homes to plummet a wait of 4 months could cause the value of the property to drop thousands of dollars.

So why if it is in their best interest to do short sales, do banks frequently loose buyers by taking far too long to respond to an offer, not calling the agents back when they say they will, not approving a sale even though they previously said the bank would take that sales price? It really comes down to how the bank has been approached by the agent.

Banks are people too! If you had an irate rude person calling your office everyday and complaining about how terrible you are doing your job how hard would you fight to get them a good deal? You wouldn’t, you would “accidently” loose their paperwork and let them stew in their own juices. Now imagine you had 15 people a day calling you and yelling and criticizing you. Then one person calls and is nice, one person is considerate of you time and energy; how well would you treat them?
